Relationship of Breed and Growth Intensity and Chemical Composition of Kid's Meat

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine how breed and birth weight influence kid's growth intensity and carcass traits as well as the correlation between them. All male kids (13 Alpine and 14 Saanen) were fed and maintained in the same conditions. The kids were weighed individually every 10 days from the birth date to the slaughter date. After the slaughter, the measurements of each carcass, intestinal tract, liver, kidneys, lungs, heart and of the skin from the lower parts of the legs were made. The results show non-significant differences in birth weight of Alpine kids (3.55 kg) and Saanen kids (3.26 kg). However, the kids of Alpine breed had significantly higher daily gains (P
