2003, 68 (1)  p. 21-25

Milan Maceljski

Abstract

Scientists of the Institute of Plant Protection of the Agricultural faculty in Zagreb had an important role in the development of biological weed control in Europe. They were the first (except the former URSS) to introduce an enemy (Zygogramma suturalis) of a weed (Ambrosia elatior) which has acclimatized in Croatia. They were proposing to european scientists to concentrate on the possibilities of biological weed control in Europe apart of investigations effectuated in Europe with the aim to find agents which will be used in other continents. They were invited to participate to the yearly USDA-CIBCCSIRO- ZIPP (Zagreb Institute Plant Protection) meetings.
In this review international scientific projects dealing with the biological weed control, the pertinent bibliography and the active participations to international meetings of scientists of the Agricultural faculty in Zagreb are listed.
