Abstract

The investigation was carried out with 20 halothane-positive (stress-sensitive) and 20 halothane-negative (stress-resistant) pigs of German Landrace. Pigs were fed ad libitum from 30-100 kg of body weight. Right pig carcasses were completely dissected. Halothane-positive pigs had average daily gain of 628 g, food consumption was 3,42 kg for kg of gain whereas muscle tissue share in carcasses was 52.64%. The same indicators for halothane-negative pigs were by turns: 650 g, 3.65 kg and 47.13%. Energetic fattening account, estimated as difference between carcasses energetic values and energetic values of consumed food, was more favourable for halothane-positive pigs. Utilization of food energy was 17.26% with halothane-positive and 15.36% with halothane-negative pigs. Financial fattening account, presented as difference between pig carcasses values (muscle and fatty tissue) and forage mixture values, was also more favourable for halothane-positive pigs (+269.59 DM i.e. +229.37 DM). Halothane-positive pigs better utilize food energy into pig carcasses gain, give more meaty carcasses which results in higher profit per animal.
